Dark Souls 3 Looks Amazing With a Retro SNES Filter

FromSoftware's SoulsBorne games are well regarded not only for their difficulty, but for the memorable worlds they exist within. Dark Souls 3 follows in the footsteps of its ancestors with an epic adventure that spans more than a dozen meticulously detailed areas, each with a great sense of style and purpose. These areas engross players in a way that is uncommon and cherished.

After having experience the world for ourselves, we couldn't help but wonder what it would look like on a retro console. And thus tinkering began.

Our resident SoulsBorne master JamalR a.k.a Razed spent some time playing with the files, applying a filter, and editing the settings of Dark Souls 3, and managed to make the game play comfortably with pixelated graphics. The results were equally shocking and exciting; Dark Souls 3 appears completely natural in a retro environment. Despite the 3D visuals, the narrow band of color and blocky textures don't take away from Director Hidetaka Miyazaki's beautiful creation dense with bizarre creatures, castle walls that approach the skyline, and vicious combat. Some may even find it preferable.

Instead of keeping the unique experience for himself, JamalR decided to make a video out of it that merges both official trailer pieces and raw gameplay spliced from the PC version. See the masterpiece for yourself:
