Guardians of the Galaxy Game: Is Star-Lord a real band in GotG?

The Guardians of the Galaxy game introduces the Star-Lord band to the Marvel universe, a ‘space metal’ outfit that serves as the inspiration for Peter Quill’s galactic anti-hero. But is Star-Lord a real band, or were they made up for Eidos Montreal’s single-player action-adventure?

Is Star-Lord a real band in the Guardians of the Galaxy game?

While Star-Lord exist as a band in the Guardians of the Galaxy game, they’re actually a work of fiction created especially for the video game. Their music was actually written and performed by Steve Szczepkowski and Yohann Boudreault, working with Eidos Montreal to develop this particular part of the soundtrack.

Steve Szczepkowski, senior audio director at Eidos Montreal, led the charge when it came to creating an entire Star-Lord album of original music — ‘Space Rider’ — that would feature in the game. This contributes to the foundation of Peter Quill’s origin story as Star-Lord, leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the game, a younger, mulleted Quill is shown listening to Star-Lord on one of his cassettes, with his bedroom wall also adorned in Star-Lord posters. He later chooses to go by the name as part of his galactic adventures, with him also sewing the Star-Lord band’s logo into his familiar red jacket. It’s certainly an interesting spin on how he choose the unique name, and makes a little more sense than him simply plucking such a ridiculously hyperbolic name out of thin air. Couple that with the game giving the character an altogether more comic-focused origin story than his MCU counterpart, and there’s some different takes on the character that Marvel fans are sure to enjoy.

In other news, Nintendo 64 games have made their way to Nintendo Switch, but fans aren’t happy. A Quiet Place game has also been announced, with it set to take place in the horror series’ universe.
