How to get Mewtwo in Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield Mewtwo

Unfortunately, Mewtwo isn’t in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Yet. Mewtwo appears to have been one of the many Pokemon that didn’t make the Galar region cut. As of writing, without hacking the game, there isn’t any way to get hold of a Pokemon Sword and Shield Mewtwo. The day may come, however, that you will be able to transfer a Mewtwo over to the game, thanks to the eventual release of the Pokemon Home app.

Nintendo’s upcoming Pokemon Home app will allow players to transfer Pokemon between games more easily than ever. While it remains to be seen how many Pokemon will be allowed to transfer in from Home into Sword and Shield, there is a solid chance that Mewtwo may well be allowed. Based on videos such as this from Kyugma, Mewtwo exists in the game code, being made available currently through hacks.

This likely means that Mewtwo will be available to transfer into Pokemon Sword and Shield following the release of Pokemon Home. Of course, time will tell if this is the case or not. For now, there is no way of catching or using a Pokemon Sword and Shield Mewtwo. You’ll have to turn to games such as Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee if you’re after an HD Mewtwo fix.
